Project Award: MSCP, RVI Newcastle
Speedclad has secured the design, supply and installation contract for the terracotta and aluminium rainscreen cladding façade on this new multi-storey car park, with Vinci Construction.
This new 9-storey car park will provide 952 spaces for the Royal Victoria Infirmary and is part of a wider redevelopment of the hospital site. The building is intended for staff parking to enable the existing MSCP to be used by the public and provide improved traffic flow around the site and on adjoining busy roads, whilst also freeing up other sites for development. The building will also have a generator house and clinical shell space for future growth.
Dunwoodie Architects have designed the building to reflect the materials of the adjacent Peacock Hall, which was part of the original hospital and dates from 1900, and the more contemporary buildings in the location, with a variety of façade treatments. The £17million scheme is expected to be open from the end of 2020.
Speedclad's contract includes terracotta Agrob Buchtal rainscreen cladding with an interlocking aluminium Wallplank cladding system, plus flashings, fire barriers and all associated items. Speedclad is currently in the design and development stage of its work, with a start on site for the façade expected in Spring 2020.
