Project Award: Luneside East, St. George's Quay, Lancaster
Speedclad has secured the design, supply and installation contract for the stone and metal rainscreen cladding façade on this student accommodation development, with Eric Wright Construction.
The £25million Luneside East scheme is part of a wider redevelopment of the St. George's Quay area on the banks of the River Lune in Lancaster, previously the site of the city's gas works. The scheme will provide accommodation for 431 students of the University of Lancaster, in cluster blocks and studio apartments, and is due to complete for the start of the 2020 academic year. Architects, Just H, have designed the development, which is arranged across 4 blocks of 3/5/6 storeys, with a view to honouring the site's industrial heritage while providing a contemporary student residence supported by retail and communal spaces.
Speedclad worked closely with Eric Wright and Just H in the early stages of the design to develop a commercial solution that would achieve the design intent. Speedclad's façade package includes a Shackerley Ceramic Stone rainscreen cladding using their Toscana TO3 tile finish, Corten steel cladding and aluminium cladding from the CGL Facades Traypanel System, plus a bespoke Corten fabrication which incorporates the vertical Corten façade fin to create a streamline feature.
