Project Award: Islington Wharf, Manchester

Morgan Sindall has awarded Speedclad the rainscreen cladding façade contract on the fourth phase of this landmark waterside residential development.

The fourth and final phase of Islington Wharf in Manchester, design by Ryder Architecture, will deliver 106 one and two-bedroom apartments across two buildings of 11 and 16 storeys, plus 3,035 sq.ft of ground floor retail space. The scheme occupies the corner of Great Ancoats Street and Old Mill Street, within the Piccadilly Basic, which has been undergoing significant transformation since work started in 2005.

This final phase of Islington Wharf is the product of a joint venture between Muse Developments and the Canal & River Trust, called Waterside Places, which has appointed Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, to deliver this phase. To date, Islington Wharf has provided 348 city centre homes on the banks of the Ashton Canal.

Speedclad's contract comprises the design, supply and installation of aluminium rainscreen cladding, sills and copings plus firestopping. Speedclad is experienced in delivering large-scale façade contracts in busy city, and waterside, locations and completed the facade at the One Vesta Street development, adjacent to Islington Wharf, in 2020.
