Exciting plans revealed for Birmingham's Beorma Quarter as phase one completes
Speedclad completed the contract for curtain walling and glazing on phase one of the ambitious Beorma Quarter in Birmingham, for BAM Construction.
Beorma Quarter is a much-talked about and anticipated development scheme set to regenerate the Digbeth area of Birmingham, in sight of the neighbouring iconic Bullring Shopping Centre. The proposed £150 million scheme has been a hot topic in the region since 2009 and now phase one is complete and plans have been revealed for future phases.
Speedclad's contract was for the design, supply and installation of aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors to the new 110-bed Adagio apart-hotel which opened its doors in August. Also in this phase was the renovation of the Grade II listed Digbeth Cold Store into offices and an innovation centre.
Beorma, named after the seventh-century founder of the settlement that Birmingham became, is set to become a flagship mixed-use centre. Plans for further phases have now been unveiled including a 30-storey office tower which, if it gets the go-ahead, will become the city's third tallest building, after the BT Tower and Radisson Blu Hotel. Later phases would also see construction of two more towers, of 10 and 14-storeys and a total development of 508,000 sq ft including 223 apartments. The proposed scheme would dramatically enhance the city's skyline and is being hailed as a 'vote of confidence' in Birmingham.
